Discover the Northern Lights

Why not discover the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) with a memorable arctic holiday?

Swirling, dancing streaks of red and green, rippling clouds of pink and yellow or eerie arcs of violet and blue; illuminating the sky, casting a heavenly, mesmeric glow over the world beneath. A natural light show – once seen, never forgotten.

Best viewed through the dark nights of winter, Aurora Borealis is at its most vivid across the skies of the Arctic Circle region

And, with winter 2013 being a ‘peak’ year in the aurora’s 11-year cycle, meaning the lights should be at their most vibrant, there’s no better time to make your journey to see this luminous phenomenon.

So, don’t delay, our consultants at arctic-circle-holidays.co.uk are waiting to help you discover the rare and wondrous beauty of the Northern Lights.

NORTHERN LIGHTS 2014 : 3, 4 & 7 NIGHT ITINERARY

Your Northern Lights break begins with a flight to Kiruna in Sweden, the ‘Gateway to the Arctic’. From Kiruna, you make the two-hour transfer to Karesuando, a spectacular journey, travelling through the majestic forests and passing countless frozen lakes. Your itinerary includes all the activities detailed below. We’ll organise the running order according to the local conditions while you’re there. We can also give you the chance to choose from our programme of optional excursions – if you’re staying for seven nights’ you might like to add an overnight stay in Tromso, Norway’s capital of cool, or whatever the duration of your stay, you can spend a night in an igloo – a highlight of our Arctic Spirit programmes.

Accommodation

Davvi Arctic Lodge Hotel

We always find a warm welcome awaits at the Davvi Arctic Lodge. This charming, simple hotel is set on a quiet, secluded hillside in the border-village of Karesuando. The beautiful restaurant, its circular design inspired by the shape of a Sami reindeer corral, is the hotel’s centrepiece and there you can enjoy spectacular panoramic views over the snow-covered hillside to Swedish Lapland across the border.

The Davvi Arctic Lodge hotel rooms are set on two floors in a wing that extends from the main building. All the rooms are en suite, although some of the bathrooms (shower, WC) are very small.

Davvi Arctic Lodge Cabins

The Davvi Arctic Lodge offers accommodation in timber-built cabins conveniently situated within its grounds. The traditional timber buildings are cosy and all are en suite (shower, WC) with a private sauna. All cabins are just metres from the main hotel building, where meals are taken.

Davvi Arctic Lodge Aurora House

The Davvi Arctic Lodge now offers comfortable designer accommodation for those who would like to enjoy something extra special. The Aurora House takes your arctic experience to new levels, with a choice of superior and deluxe rooms to choose from, each equipped with added comforts for your stay.

This is sumptuous Scandinavian chic, a standard unparalleled within the Davvi Arctic Lodge and rarely found elsewhere in Finland. Please note that all meals will be taken at the Davvi Arctic Lodge restaurant on the same basis as other hotel guests.

Superior Room

The superior room offers spacious, contemporary design. Both underfloor heating and a wood burning stove can be found inside this room, along with tea and coffee making facilities.

Deluxe Room

Our Deluxe Rooms were refurbished in 2012 by the same team of Parisian architects that also masterminded our premium rooms. These double rooms offer greater space with underfloor heating, feature mirrors and glass panels between the rain shower room and bedroom.
