For many animal lovers, it is the hard-working huskies that are the highlight of a winter trip inside the Arctic Circle, and our Husky Sled Adventurer package has been designed exactly with them in mind. This three or four-night break includes two thrilling excursions that will give you plenty of opportunities to befriend these beautiful creatures and marvel at their eager enthusiasm for work - a Northern Lights Husky Safari and then a full day Husky Adventure!

This trip offers the chance to explore Lapland by husky, discover the beauty of Karesuando and the surrounding area and, if that's not quite enough, there are numerous optional excursions that you can book to make your holiday even more special.

Included Activities

Your Husky Sled Adventurer break begins with a flight from your chosen UK airport to Kiruna in northern Sweden. From here, you will make the 2 hour transfer to Karesuando - a spectacular journey, travelling through the majestic forests and passing countless frozen lakes. The charming village of Karesuando will then be the base for your Arctic adventure, from where you will venture out on the exciting activities detailed below before flying back from Kiruna.

We’ll organise the running order according to the local conditions while you’re there so a set itinerary will be provided at a later date. You will also have the opportunity to choose from our programme of optional excursions: maybe try your hand at snowmobiling or spend a night in an igloo – a definite highlight of our Arctic Spirit programmes!

Northern Lights Husky Safari

Duration: 2 hours

Take a magical evening safari on a sledge pulled by a team of dogs, hopefully travelling under the beautiful Northern Lights (of course, this cannot be guaranteed). Two adults share a sled and dog team.

Full Day Husky Sled Adventure

Duration: Full day

Enjoy travelling through the snow-clad forest with your dog team, stopping for a warming lunch amidst the wilderness, before returning to the husky farm, where your dogs will at last enjoy a well-earned rest and perhaps a treat or two!

Accommodation

Arctic Star Hotel

Situated on the outskirts of Swedish Karesuando, the Arctic Star is a traditional and friendly hotel offering superb views over both the majestic Muonio River and the Kaarevaara fell. Here, you are well placed to explore Karesuando on foot, dropping in at Sweden’s most northerly church, paying a visit to the local museum and regularly crossing the Finnish-Swedish border.

Whilst simple and comfortable, the hotel has undergone a programme of modernisation in recent years and has all the essentials you need for a good stay including an open plan bar and dining area. There are 27 rooms in total, each being unpretentious and cosy. The Lagom rooms are inspired by the Swedish concept of Lagom: everything perfectly balanced in moderation - not too much, and not too little. The hotel also offers Fika rooms, which are slightly larger and named after the Swedish social institution of fika: a relaxing break, usually over coffee.

Davvi Arctic Lodge Hotel

The Davvi Arctic Lodge is a charming, simple hotel set on a quiet, secluded hillside in the border-village of Karesuando. The beautiful restaurant, its circular design inspired by the shape of a Sami reindeer corral, is the hotel’s centrepiece and from here you can enjoy panoramic views over the snow-covered hillside to Swedish Lapland located just across the border.

Deep in the heart of True Lapland, and located on the offical Northern Lights route, Karesuando offers once-in-life-time Arctic experiences without the crowds. For those looking to stay in the Swedish side of the village we also offer Northern Light stays at the Arctic Star hotel.

Davvi Arctic Lodge - Hotel Rooms (Double)

The main hotel building consists of 25 rooms split over two floors and includes a mixture of twin and double rooms. On the upper floor, the rooms form part of the circular reindeer corral build of the hotel, and the rooms on the lower floor span the north and south wings of the building. All rooms and en-suite (shower room) and guests have access to the hotel sauna and hot tub (local charge applies)

Davvi Arctic Lodge - Cabins

The Davvi Arctic Lodge has 14 traditional timber-built cabins which are located in the grounds of the hotel. The main hotel building, where meals are taken, are just a short walk away. Most cabins are twin or double rooms in an open-plan style, with a further two two-bedroom cabins available for larger parties. Each cabin has its own private sauna and en-suite shower room. Minimum occupancy applies.

Davvi Arctic Lodge - Fell House

Sleeps 5-9

The Fell House accommodation is simple and spacious; ideal for larger families or groups. Each unit has two or three bedrooms as well as a central lounge area which can be turned into a third or fourth bedroom respectively. There is one en-suite shower room in each Fell House. The main hotel building is a short 5-minute walk away but is uphill so may not be suitable for those with mobility issues. Minimum occupancy applies.

Aurora House - Deluxe Room

The deluxe room is perfect for two. This cosy, double room comes complete with modern features such as underfloor heating, a free standing bath, double sinks, a traditional Finnish sauna and a feature LED Fire. The room is located in the grounds of the hotel and accessed via a lobby shared with just one other room.

Aurora House - Superior Room

The superior room offers spacious, contemporary design and is the largest room type available. Our favourite feature within this designer room is certainly the comfortable seating area with a feature LED Fire. Whilst the room is designed for two, additional beds can be added if required. Located in the grounds of the hotel, access is via a lobby shared with the deluxe room.
